Film Series: Alexander Calder – American Masters Series (60 min.)
First of a three-part series of films (November 4, 18, December 9). The first two films feature the life and work of the artist Alexander Calder, and the final film is an exclusive screening of the PBS documentary film All About Prints, an in-depth exploration of the fine art medium of printmaking. Films are free with Museum admission and are followed by coffee and discussion.

Art Lecture: Hendrick Goltzius’ Alchemical Pursuits and their Visual Echoes
Abigail Newman, graduate student at Princeton University and former Lillian Butler Davey Resident Intern at the Bruce Museum, will lecture on the Dutch artist Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617), who has long been acknowledged to have had alchemical interests and friends, and at least one enemy. This talk will explore the extent to which Goltzius’ art may be understood according to the alchemical context of his time in Haarlem. Presented in conjunction with Alchemy: Magic, Myth or Science? Alexander Calder Family Day
A fun-filled day focusing on the art of one of America’s most beloved artists, Alexander Calder. There will be a gallery hunt through the exhibition and art-making activities in the workshop. At 3:00 p.m., Carlton van Pyrz will perform his family show Calder Re-Wired. This interactive performance features elements the Calder’s famous "Circus," his wire sculpture, mobiles and stabiles. Mask, mime and puppetry bring the art work of Alexander Calder to life!
All activities are suitable for people of all abilities ages 5 years and up, and are free with Museum admission.
